First Legacy Community Credit Union, originally School Workers Federal Credit Union was founded February 14, 1941, in Charlotte, North Carolina, by a group of educators in the Charlotte School System. From our humble beginnings, we offered a simple savings and loan program. Today, we offer a broad range of financial services such as: Checking (Share Draft Account), Savings (Share Accounts), Loans (Auto, Mortgages, HELOCs, Personal Loans, and Line-of-Credit Loans).
The credit union, a not-for-profit financial cooperative, owned and operated by its members, offers the following advantages:
* Return of profits, in the form of quarterly dividends, to its members
* Lower interest rates on loans
This credit union continues to operate on its original theme: “Not for profit, not for charity, but for service.
When an individual joins First Legacy Community Credit Union there are range of services immediately available to them. A minimum deposit of $20.00 plus a fee of $10.00 opens an account and establishes life membership. Any individual who lives, works, worships or goes to school in any of the following counties can become a member: Mecklenburg, Rowan, Iredell, Cabarrus, Catawba, Alexander, Davie, Gaston, Cleveland, and Lincoln counties. Also any members, spouses, children, or retired persons of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority or AARP may join.
