On Tuesday, October 16, Gaston College is hosting an Open House to showcase to the public all the programs and benefits it offers. The free event is open to high school students and their families, teachers and counselors; transfer students; adult learners; and members of the community who want to learn about the opportunities available on all three of the Gaston College campuses, which are located in Dallas, Lincolnton, and Belmont. To begin the event at 6 p.m, attendees will be invited to visit information booths to learn about various Gaston College program divisions like Business and Information Technology, Engineering and Industrial Technologies, Health and Human Services, and Arts & Sciences. The Economic and Workforce Development and Continuing Education programs will also be featured. In addition, representatives from student services and support services such as Student Activities, Admissions, Financial Aid and Veteran’s Affairs, Libraries, Work-Based Learning, Counseling, Transfer Advising Center, and Persistence & Retention will be on hand to provide information. Visitors will learn about scholarship opportunities, the award-winning SPARC Scholars Program through which STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) students may qualify for free tuition, and the Apprenticeship 321 Program whereby participants receive job-specific training and a cost-free education from Gaston College while earning a salary from local employers, as well as other available services. Guided campus tours will be offered at the event, and some academic departments will be doing demonstrations and presentations to showcase skills or activities that are incorporated in their programs.
