This March, Gaston College presents LeadingEdge: A Foundation for Effective Leadership, a high-powered one-day seminar designed for newly hired and newly promoted managers in business and industry. The seminar consists of presentations, discussions, and hands-on skill building exercises that will develop and refine foundational and leadership skills such as effective communication, motivation and planning. Joanna Roop, founder and CEO of The People Tree, will lead the seminar. Roop has a degree in education with a specialization in corporate training and development and holds a variety of Organizational Development and Leadership certifications including Six Sigma Green Belt, Human Performance Technology and Situational Leadership II. She brings 20 years of corporate organizational development experience in the retail, supply chain and academic industry. "Today successful companies and organizations know there is a positive relationship between investment in leadership development and financial performance," said Beth Hollars, Director of Community Education at Gaston College. "Companies and organizations have proven those who spend 30% or more on training and development budgets on leadership development are more likely to report increased revenue and (ROI) a return on investment." "Not only does the company benefit financially, the individuals that received the leadership training also benefit by showing greater initiative, innovation, self-confidence, collaboration, focused shared values and initiative and ownership as calculated risk takers," said Ms. Hollars. Individuals can register for the seminar, or employers can enroll their emerging leaders for participation. All participants will leave the seminar with basic leadership tools, a starting plan for developing additional skills and a newfound cadre of fellow professionals.
